water-resistant mud plaster

We experimented with a more durable type of mud plaster in Sindh Province, Pakistan, as an alternative to standard mud plaster or sand and cement mortar. We applied a thick layer of plaster over mud bricks, aiming to increase their resistance to the flood waters. Applying sand and cement mortar to mud bricks is problematic as it is heavier than the wall and tends to fall off over time, damaging the wall.

ARTESANO - TADELAKT This material has been around for thousands of years. It is a water-resistant compound consisting of olive soap and lime, and can be used to plaster walls, floors, ceilings, benchtops and cisterns. It's not the material to use if you are after hard, straight edges, rather it creates an undulating, handcrafted finish.
